Yes! St Ives is brilliant for families. The calmer beaches, like Porthminster and Porthgwidden, are great for little ones, the harbour beach is made for sandcastles, and older children can learn to surf on Porthmeor. Everything is close together, so it’s easy to get around without the car.

It depends what you’re after. Porthmeor is the best for surfing, with a surf school right on the sand. Porthminster is calm and sheltered, great for swimming and families. Porthgwidden is a tiny sun trap tucked under the Island, and the harbour beach is perfect for sandcastles at low tide.

Letting your property

Yes, though Penzance is more about the sea than the sand. Eastern Green is a long stretch of beach running from the station towards Long Rock, and Battery Rocks, next to Jubilee Pool, is a favourite spot for a sea swim. Marazion and Mousehole are both a short trip away for more sandy beaches.

The Mousehole lights usually come on in mid-December and shine every evening until early January. On 19th December, they’re switched off from 8pm in memory of the crew of the Penlee lifeboat, lost in 1981.
