There’s not much that beats it: sitting in the heat while the wind whips across the bay, then heading straight into the Atlantic. Sauna culture has taken off across West Cornwall over the last few years, and it’s easy to see why. The sea is right there, the light is something else, and after a long day on the coast path, there’s nothing better for tired legs.
We’re lucky to have some brilliant saunas on our doorstep, from big community pavilions to tiny wood-fired huts on the sand. Here are our favourites, from St Ives round to Sennen.

Kiln Sauna, St Ives
Kiln opened its sauna pavilion above Porthmeor Beach in summer 2026, and it’s already a firm local favourite. There are two 12-seater saunas – one kept for silent and soundscape sessions – and five cold plunge baths at different temperatures, all looking out over the surf. It’s open from sunrise to sunset, and most of the space is wheelchair accessible, apart from the plunges.
Good to know: social sessions last 45 minutes and cost around £12. Late-afternoon slots are a treat as the light drops over the bay.

Jubilee Pool, Penzance
Penzance’s Art Deco lido has its own sauna, built from spruce and aspen, and it’s the perfect partner to a swim. Sweat it out, then cool off in the seawater main pool – or warm back up in the geothermally heated pool, which stays toasty whatever the weather. It’s a lovely, sociable spot, with a café right by the water for afterwards.
Good to know: sauna sessions are 30 minutes and come with a swim. It’s over-16s only, and the pool is open from spring until early November.

Rising Embers, Newlyn
A wood-fired sauna bringing a bit of traditional Finnish culture to the shores of Mount’s Bay. Rising Embers sets up on Newlyn Green, just a few steps from the water, so a sea dip between rounds is easy. It’s small, friendly and properly hot – just what you want after a walk along the prom from Penzance.
The same team also run Cinder Sauna on Marazion Beach, where you can sweat it out with St Michael’s Mount straight ahead. Worth a trip for the view alone.
Good to know: communal sessions are around 45 minutes, and you can hire the whole sauna privately for your group. Opening days vary, so check before you go.

Bos Sauna, Sennen Cove
Out at the far western tip of Cornwall, Bos is a wood-fired sauna on the edge of Sennen Cove, with sweeping views across the Atlantic. Session times shift with the tides and seasons, so your sea dip is always well timed. It’s a small, simple setup – which is exactly the point.
Good to know: opening times are shared on their Instagram each week. Bring two towels, water, sliders and a dry change of clothes.

Escape to the Sauna, Hayle
Over the estuary from Lelant, Escape to the Sauna runs a community wood-fired sauna by the North Quay slipway in Hayle, looking across the lagoon to St Uny’s Church. Sessions are booked in half-hour blocks for up to seven people, and they host regular community nights, including pay-what-you-can evenings for local charities.
Sauna tips from the locals
- Book ahead. Most of these saunas are small, and weekend, evening and sunset slots go quickly.
- Bring two towels (one to sit on, one for after), a water bottle, sliders and something warm for afterwards. A changing robe is a lifesaver in winter.
- Check the tide and conditions before a sea dip, stay close to the shore and never go in alone. If in doubt, a cold shower or plunge pool does the job.
- Drink plenty of water and go at your own pace. If you’re pregnant or have a health condition, check with your GP first.
Make a sauna weekend of it
Pick a base and you can try a different sauna each day. Stay in St Ives for Kiln and the beaches, or in Penzance, Newlyn or Mousehole and you’ll have Jubilee Pool, Rising Embers and Cinder just a short trip away. Penzance even has its own winter sauna festival – this year’s Cornish Sauna Festival took place in February.
